Over of the many years that I have prepared taxes, I have sadly seen many people get into trouble with the IRS over credits that they didn’t qualify for, or income that they did not report. Making matters worse was that some of those tax returns had been done by tax return preparers who did not list their names on the tax return, but rather, stated that the clients had prepared their own returns! In most of those cases, the tax client was totally unaware that this had happened! As a result of their lack of knowledge, they ended up owing money to the IRS!
As your tax return preparer, I will take the reporting of your taxes very seriously! My name, business address, and PTIN appear on every tax return that I prepare. A PTIN, or Preparer Tax Identification Number, is a number that all paid tax preparers must obtain from the IRS before they can begin preparing tax returns. This number must be renewed each year before the start of the next tax season.
I also participate in the Annual Filing Season Program (ASP). The ASP is a program where every year, tax return preparers participate in continuing education courses to demonstrate tax knowledge, filing competency, and an adherence to ethics. Because this program is voluntary, there are some tax preparers who choose not to participate in it.
However, given the complex nature of the ever-changing tax laws, it is important to choose a tax preparer who is up to date on all the latest rules and regulations!
It is also important that your personal information be protected from identity theft. You’ll be happy to know that I use cybersecurity safeguards to protect my clients’ personal data from hackers and other cyber thieves.
Over the years, I have expanded my tax service to include the preparation of most immigration forms and Spanish/English translation of documents. I am actively registered with the Nevada Secretary of State as a bonded document preparation service, and I am a DMV authorized document translator. As with taxes, I am very honest and ethical when it comes to filling out immigration forms and translating documents. If you ever have a situation that requires legal advice or representation, I will help you find an attorney, CPA, or enrolled agent, as I am not an attorney, and I am therefore prohibited from providing this type of service to my clients.
